Day 9: Visiting to Deoksugung Palace, Seoul/9

I made a trip to the tourist attractions of downtown Seoul, Sunday, on April 26th. It was the best weather to go sightseeing. I was already went there in July 2013, but it was a rainy day at that time.

I've decided to go Deoksugung Palace, which has been used as a court in the Joseon Dynasty. I took a subway line 5 from the nearest station Gimpo Airport to Gwanghwamun. From there, you walk just a little the Sejong-daero Avenue to the south, you'll see the Daehanmun Gate of the palace. A ceremony for the guardian changes is performed 3 times per day in front of the gate.
Hongdeokjeon is a main room which has been used for a living space of the king Gojong, the last king of the Jeoseon Dynasty. He was continued to use as a bedroom even after giving his throne to Sunjong who moved into the Changdeokgung Palace.
Chunghwajeon is a main hall of the Deoksugung Palace. The building itself has been built to have a very unique structure; on top of the stone steps that are stacked in three stages.

Seokjojeon is a stone building of the oldest neoclassical style in Korea that is built in the Korean Empire era. It was setting to work in 1900 by the British architect, JR Harding, and was completed in 1909. It has also been built a western-style garden and fountain in the yard
After leaving Deoksugung Palace, I took a 10 minute walk to Namdaemun/Sungnyemun Gate. A serious incident was occurred in 2008 by arson, and it was entirely burnt down. Later the repair work has been started, and it was open again in May 2013.
After that I had a lunch at a bibimbab restaurant nearby.
