Visiting Urakami Cathedral, Nagasaki

In the evening we went to Nagasaki Chinatown. As usual, I bought some RatπŸ€ Chinese new year goods at Min-min boutique shop.

Before that we went to the Urakami Cathedral⛪. The St. Mary's cathedral is located only 500 meters away from the hypocenter of an atomic bomb. The cathedral was first built in 1925 and called "the best church in the East" at that time. But when the atom bombπŸ’£ was dropped at 11:02 am on August 9, 1945, the brick building was totally destroyed by an airstrike. Now only one remains such as walls found at the church.

The church stands on a hill overlooking the city.
The image is downloading from Yukiko's blog on Ameblo.

There is a gate in front of Family Mart convenience storeπŸͺ across the street. From here just go on a slope towards the cathedral. You can see a beautiful church of red bricks on the hill.
Three statues of ChristπŸŽ… is shown on the left side of the entrance to the church. Look at the picture on the left. The broken St. John the Apostle statue which has fallen on his neck by bomb that tell us the truth of war.
The former belfryπŸ”” fall down to the ground of the church.
