On June 5, we had decided to take a drive to see the situation after the quakes at Aso Shrine (阿蘇神社 -jinja), a
Shinto shrine in
Aso,
Kumamoto. The shrine was heavily damaged in the
Kumamoto earthquakes last year. The shrine's
rōmon (tower gate), officially classified as an
Important Cultural Property by the Japanese government, and the
haiden (worshiping hall) both completely collapsed.
When we arrived there at about 2 p.m, it was so crowded because they want to see "What has become of the area struck in after one year". So I don't want to go inside and only took pictures of romon. According to some Japanese press and bloggers, the shrine need to be rebuilt within ten years. I wish for their fast recovery.
